German researchers achieve record for fastest wireless speed

Researchers at Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute for Technology and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics have managed to break records for the world’s fastest Wi-Fi connection. Results were set at a speed of 100Gbps and a signal distance of 66 feet, something the researchers are hoping to fine-tune.

Whilst the potential for speed of that nature is endless, it would not work well for indoor use, given that the signal has trouble penetrating walls. However, should a larger distance be attained, this sort of internet connection could cover entire cities. Until then, just remember that speeds like this have only been achieved through wired fiber connections – to achieve this sort of speed wirelessly has already been quite a start.
